Cargo Ship Ablaze, Firefighters in Rescue Act

A recent Kentonline news source by Chloe Holmwood says that firefighters tackle cargo ship blaze at Sheerness Docks.

What happened? 

Firefighters tackled a blaze on board a cargo ship at Sheerness Docks.

Crews were called shortly before 7.30am this morning.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) spokesman said: “Crews have been called to reports of a fire on board a cargo ship at Sheerness Docks, Sheerness.

“At its height, five fire engines, the technical rescue unit and KFRS’ inflatable boat were sent to the scene.”

At about 10am, the fire service said it had been reduced to three fire engines, and that crews were using main jets to extinguish the fire and dampen down any remaining hotspots.

No casualties reported

No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Crews returned to station at 1.10pm.

Peel Ports, which runs Sheerness docks, was contacted for further information.
