The general cargo ship Moon Step suffered mechanical failure and lost its steering in the Aegean Sea off Andros Island, Greece.

What happened?

The vessel was en route from Istanbul to Eemshaven, but after passing the Steno Kafirea strait the rudder pump got blocked and the ship remained adrift.

The weather in the vicinity was fresh and there was no immediate danger for the seaworthiness of the ship.

Towed to safety:

The accident was reported to local authorities, who were monitoring the situation and were ready to react in case of an emergency.

The ship-owner through its agent company contacted the salvage of the freighter Moon Step with the Vernicos Tugs & Salvage. Two tugs were dispatched to the site of the troubled vessel and secured her with the help of a tow.

Though the traffic in the area was heavy, no one was seriously affected by the incident.

Fortunately, during the incident, there were no injured people and no water pollution.

The vessel will be repaired and inspected before returning to service and resuming her voyage to Eemshaven.
