On February 5, a general cargo ship has been reportedly attacked by pirates.

What happened?

The general cargo ship named BBC Caribbean was attacked by pirates in Gulf of Guinea approximately 45 nautical miles south-west off Brass, Nigeria.  The accident occurred near Pennington Oil Terminal at Nigerian Delta, when the cargo ship was approached by a motor skiff with armed men on board, who opened fire.

Crew return fire:

The guards on board the general cargo ship started to fire back at the pirates and the attack was averted successfully.

The ship continued to proceed in the western direction with destination “to order”, but there were no reports about injured or hijacked people.

The accident was reported to the local authorities and they arrived at the attack scene by a navy boat but failed to track the pirates.

An investigation into the accident is underway to determine whether how the attack occurred.
