On July 23, Mfame reported about an accident in new panama canal. It turned out to be a Chinese cargo ship “XIN FEI ZHOU1” which allided with the wall of a new dock Agua Clara on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal while transiting from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
The vessel reportedly suffered several meters long gash above waterline and dock suffered slight damage, but remained operative with just a slight setback in its journey through the waterway.
According to the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), the incident occurred at about 2.30 pm and did not cause serious damage to the affected ship also it did not interrupt transit through the new locks. The ACP stressed that this is the first incident that occurred in more than 40 transits received since its inauguration last June 26.
