Cargo Ship Breaks Apart Following Grounding in Xinghua Bay

A Chinese-flagged bulk carrier has tragically broken apart after running aground off the coast, leading to significant concerns about maritime safety and potential environmental impact, reports Safety4sea.

The Chinese-flagged cargo ship broke apart after running aground in Xinghua Bay, off the coast of Fuzhou, on 3 December. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. local time when the vessel struck a shoal between Xiaori Island and Dasheyu Island, with the impact causing a significant structural failure, splitting the hull into two sections.

As reported, fortunately all 12 crew members were safely evacuated with no injuries, however the damage to the vessel was extensive.
