On January 11, Heavy winds due to a storm pushed the ro-ro cargo ship Finnmerchant to break loose from its mooring lines and collide with the berthed ferry Trica in the port of Hanko, Finland.

Vessel broke free, drifted across harbor and bumped into docked ferry TRICA. FINNMERCHANT was taken back by tugs, both vessels said to have suffered superficial damages.  TRICA reportedly left Hanko almost on schedule, FINNMERCHANT was still at Hanko.

The bad weather caused sufficient problems for shipping in the area.  The wind gusts reached speed of 30 m/s and waves were with height of 5-6 m.  Fortunately there were no reports of injuries or pollution from the incident.
