Cargo Ship Capsizes Off Kaohsiung, All Crew Members Rescued

On October 18, a cargo ship reportedly sank in the waters off Kaohsiung and all its crew members were rescued by the Coastguard.

What happened?

The cargo vessel ‘Ming An’ enroute from Kaohsiung Port to Vietnam reportedly started sinking after getting caught in rough weather. During the incident, the vessel’s hydraulic high pressure water pump was damaged by rough waves, allowing water into the ship and causing it to sink.

Crew members rescued:

As the vessel started sinking it sent a distress signal for help from a position about 36 nautical miles west of Kaohsiung Port. The Coast Guard officials dispatched a frigate and three cutters from Tainan, Kaohsiung and the Penghu Islands to rescue the crew members, and the National Airborne Service Corps sent a helicopter to provide assistance.

The 14 Indonesian crew members were rescued from the sinking vessel, provided medical assistance and were reported to be in good condition.
