Cargo Ship Collides With Freighter Off Port Of Piraeus

Accident type : Collision
Vessels involved : Two Greek Cargo ships
Location : Port of Piraeus
Casualties\ Oil Spill : Not reported.

A general cargo ship entering the port at the approach area collided with a freighter that was leaving the port.  Bad weather and big swell are considered to be the cause of the collision.

Both the ship’s pilots were diverging without crossing routes. Bad weather conditions created problems with steering course, which made them go near.

No seafarer was reported injured but both the ships suffered damages of the hulls, but stayed afloat without any oil leaks.

Incident is under investigation.
