Cargo Ship Collides with Tanker: Violation of COLREG Rules

A  cargo ship reportedly collided with a tanker in Tokyo Bay off Kawasaki, Tokyo.  The Cargo vessel reportedly struck the tanker’s port side causing damages to both the vessels.

After the incident both vessels reportedly remained seaworthy and were traveling to the port of Kawasaki on their own power for inspection and to undertake repairs.

Investigations are underway to pinpoint the root cause of the incident, with preliminary findings reported to suggest that the cargo vessel violated COLREG rules, having failed to maneuver appropriately.

No injuries or fuel leak has been reported as a result of the collision.

The names of the vessels involved in the collision were not been disclosed.
