Cargo Ship Hits Rock and Sank Off Taiwan Strait

On October 16, a cargo reportedly sank at sea after hitting underwater rocks.

What happened?

The cargo ship ‘QUAN HAI 88’ sank after hitting underwater rocks in Quanzhou prefecture waters, Fujian Province, Taiwan Strait. The vessel was enroute from Dongguan to Jiaxing when the incident occurred.

Hull suffers breaches:

The vessel after hitting the rocks suffered breaches to its hull and started listing on its portside by 20 degrees. The 16 crew members onboard the vessel were rescued by a patrol boat.

The accident is said to have caused by stormy weather and navigational error.
