- A 135-meter-long cargo ship ran aground just meters from a local resident’s home near Trondheim, Norway.
- The early morning incident caused no injuries but left the community stunned.
- Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, which echoes a similar event from last year.
A man in Byneset, near the city of Trondheim, Norway, woke up to an unbelievable sight: a massive cargo vessel had crashed into his front garden. The 135-meter-long ship had veered off course and plowed into the shore, stopping just short of his home. He was alerted not by the crash itself, but by his neighbor’s urgent ringing of the doorbell.
“I went to the window and was quite astonished to see a big ship,” he told local media. “I had to bend my neck to see the top of it. It was so unreal.”
A Narrow Miss
The vessel came dangerously close to the house. “Five metres further south and it would have entered the bedroom,” the resident recounted in a follow-up interview. Surprisingly, he hadn’t heard any noise from the impact itself.
Quick Response by a Neighbor
A neighbor, who had witnessed the ship heading toward land, sprang into action. Awakened by the sound, he rushed to alert his friend. “I rang the doorbell many times and nothing,” he said. It wasn’t until he made a phone call that the homeowner finally answered.
The Voyage Disrupted
The vessel had been traveling on a scheduled route through the fjord when it suddenly went off course and ran aground. There were 16 people on board at the time, and thankfully, no one was injured.
Interestingly, this is not the first time the same vessel has experienced trouble. It had reportedly run aground once before, about a year earlier, but managed to free itself without assistance.
Investigation Underway
Officials are now working to determine what caused the latest incident. Representatives for the ship’s operator described the grounding as a “serious situation” and said they are awaiting the results of an ongoing investigation.
“We are grateful that nobody was injured,” a spokesperson added.
A Temporary Visitor
Taking a lighthearted view of the event, the homeowner joked, “It’s a very bulky new neighbour, but it will soon go away.”
