Earlier this week, a cargo ship ran aground off the Caithness coast after it ran into technical difficulties.

What happened?

The cargo ship ‘MV Priscilla’ ran aground off the Caithness coast with six crew members.

After the vessel ran aground, traces of oil leak were detected and measures were taken by the officials to contain the spill.

Oil removed from vessel

The salvage crew arrived at the grounding site located on the Pentland Skerries. As part of the operation to contain the oil spill, tonnes of oil were removed from the vessel.

The vessel was successfully refloated and a Longhope lifeboat is scheduled to escort the vessel to sheltered waters in Scapa Flow.

Surveyed for damages

After the vessel reaches the port, divers will carry out an inspection to determine the extent of damage sustained by the vessel and further repairs.

The six crew members, who have remained on board throughout, were reported to be safe and well.
