Cargo Ship Sheltered in Celeiro After Cargo Shift

On January 4, a cargo vessel reportedly sought shelter in port after suffering from cargo shift.

What happened?

The cargo vessel ‘Wilson Avonmouth’ entered the port of Celeiro to secure its cargo of 20 ton steel coils bound from Newport, UK, to Gemlik.

The vessel suffered from cargo shift after it encountered a storm and started losing its balance. The vessel sought shelter at the port to regain its stability.

Vessel stabilised:

With the help of a large crane, the steel coils were repositioned, but diverse circumstances prevented it.

However a couple of days later, the ship returned to the anchorage off San Román to give quay space in Celeiro for another merchant ship which was scheduled to load quartz.

Efforts are on again to stabilize the cargo and is expected to leave the port to resume its journey.
