What happened?
General cargo ship HUY HOANG 18 sank in Binh Dinh province waters, central Vietnam, South China sea, at night Dec 10.
According to reports, the ship ran onto a small islet some 4 nm off the coast of Phu My district, breaching hull in several places, with ensuing water ingress.
The ship went off the islet’s coast or reefs and continued sailing. But the crew weren’t able to take the water ingress under control.
Loaded with coal
The ship was loaded with around 3,000 tons of coal. 9 crew and 2 passengers were reported to be on board. The vessel was en route from Ho Chi Minh to Haiphong. All people were rescued.
