On July 31, two cargo ships were reportedly involved in collision with each other. On of the cargo ship sank shortly after the collision.
What happened?
The cargo ship ‘Chong Lun J3010’ collided with another cargo ship ‘Xin Hang Hai 2’ during late hours on Monday. The vessel ‘Xin Hang Hai 2’ loaded with timber was ready for berthing when it collided with ‘Chong Lun J3010’. The incident occurred at a port near Taicang situated in the Yangtze river, Shanghai.
Shortly after the collision the vessel ‘Chong Lun J3010’ loaded with around 180 containers and with 15 crew members onboard started sinking. The vessel was enroute from Chongqing to Shanghai when the incident occurred.
2 Crew members missing:
The vessel started rapidly sinking after the collision, 2 crew members onboard the vessel were reported missing by others. Around 180 containers onboard the vessel were lost at Sea during the collision.
Search initiated:
The port officials have initiated a large-scale SAR to search for the missing crew members and to recover the containers which are expected to float after sinking. The contents inside the container are unknown but it has been confirmed that there was no hazmat cargo available onboard the vessel.
The officials have also initiated investigation to determine the cause of the collision and have also detained the other cargo vessel for further enquiries.
