A general cargo ship New Lucky III has reportedly suffered an engine failure in Yellow Sea southeast off Shanghai, China. The vessel was en route from Osaka to Zhangjiagang, but engine jammed and lost consequently lost its propulsion power. The cargo ship remained floating and crew reported the accident to the local authorities and requested assistance.
The local authorities dispatched a rescue ship and rushed to the scene of the disabled cargo vessel. The vessel was safely towed and anchored south off Zhoushan for further repairs. Since optimal weather conditions prevailed, the ship-owner contracted repairs to be done by shore engineers, who will deliver the necessary spare parts. The ship will resume its journey after further inspection and determine its sea-worthiness.
The local authorities have started an investigation to determine the root cause of the accident and ordered a survey. There were no injuries or water pollution was reported.
