Cargo ship Suffers Engine Trouble

A 130-metre-long cargo ship ran aground on a sandbank near the Swedish island of Sando due to engine problems, reports Yahoo News quoting the Swedish Coast. 

What happened?

The ship had lost power and with it the capacity to manoeuvre.

The ship’s bow was on the sandbank and the fact that its oil tanks were located on the stern reduced the risk of oil spilling, the coast guard said.

Efforts to free the ship

Several authorities are now working to free the ship again as quickly and safely as possible.

According to reports, the vessel is bound for Casablanca in Morocco and carrying timber, broadcaster.

Any injury reported?

No one was injured in the incident that occurred about 400km north of Stockholm, according to the report.

It was not initially clear whether the ship was damaged.
