Vessel Sinks After Colliding with a Cargo Ship

collision

On August 9, a cargo ship Maria (8,383 tons) reportedly suffered a mechanical failure while berthing in Grand Harbour, lost control and hit the moored Italian fish farm vessel Angela Arcella leading it to capsize.  Besides that the Maria went about hitting the moored Congo-registered cargo ship Union which then broke its moorings and hit the tug boat Lieni, without causing damages.

Two crewmen of the Angela Arcella jumped into the sea and later were taken to hospital, although they were not seriously injured.

Measures were taken to prevent environmental damage.
