A cargo freighter named Rix Star owned and operated by the Denmark company Poseidon reportedly lost propulsion power during storm in Baltic sea northwest off Baltiysk, Russia. The cargo ship started its travel from Tallinn and was destined to reach Kaliningrad. When it was sailing through the Polish waters near the Hel Peninsula it suffered an engine failure and started to drift away. The crew members were unable to restart the propulsion and reported the accident to the local authorities by raising a distress call. Fortunately, no injuries were reported by the crew members onboard the ship.
A tug boat was dispatched to tow the snagged cargo ship towards the eastern coast on a slow speed towards Gdansk. The cargo ship will be docked in Gdansk for further repairs and inspection but the repair efforts were hampered due to unfavourable weather conditions.
The incident was reported to their Russian counterparts. It is reported that preliminary investigations conducted stressed that the ship’s engine has undergone serious damage and required certain parts to be replaced.
