Cargo Vessel Capsizes, Nine Passengers Rescued

On January 2, a Chinese cargo vessel reportedly capsized and nine passengers were rescued after it was battered by huge waves.

What happened?

The cargo vessel ‘Kin Ming No.16’ made an emergency docking at the shoreline in the vicinity of Barangay 2 Poblacion, Pambujan town in Northern Samar. The vessel was battered by huge waves and subsequently capsized due to rough weather condition caused by typhoon Agaton.

Crew rescued:

The nine crew members onboard the vessel raised a distress call to the Pambujan Municipal Police Station. The police officials dispatched a rescue team from Pambujan Municipal Police Station, Northern Samar PMFC 2nd MP, Coastguard, MDRRMO Pambujan, and Red Cross to rescue the crew members.

The team evacuated nine crew members composed of one Taiwanese, six Chinese, and two Hongkong nationals. The rescued crew members have been provided medical assistance.

Compartment flooded:

The vessel was sailing, the ship was battered by huge waves that resulted in the rupture of its hull sucking seawater and flooding its compartments and the engine room and causing the engine to conk out.
