On August 5, a cargo vessel ran aground near the shores of the Legazpi City due to adverse weather conditions.
What happened?
The cargo vessel ‘MV Jerlyn Lily’ ran aground just 100 meters from the shores of a coastal barangay in Legazpi City in Albay province.
The cargo vessel wandered into shallow waters and reportedly got stuck in a reef area off Legazpi City’s Barangay Arimbay.
Adverse weather conditions
The vessel got stuck in a reef area due to adverse Southwest monsoon conditions which was further enhanced by Storm Karding present in the Philippines.
Efforts are on to assist the stricken vessel and to release it from the shallow waters.
Investigation initiated
An investigation has been initiated by the Philippine Coast Guard Commander Armand Balilo and the authorities are trying to determine the cause of the incident.
Fortunately, none of the crew members present onboard the vessel were injured during the grounding incident.
