  • Grounding Near Brough Halts Journey to Port.
  • Three Failed Attempts to Refloat the Vessel.
  • Officials Cite Tidal Conditions as Key Challenge.

A cargo ship ran aground in the estuary of the Humber during its journey to a local port. The accident was witnessed on Sunday night, and the ship ended up floating close to Brough, reports BBC.

Efforts to Refloat Fail

Three rescue operations have been attempted to refloat the ship, but none have succeeded. “We attended three times to put the lines on board for the tugs, but it was not successful,” said David Roberts, chairman of the Humber Rescue.

Tide Conditions Delay Further Efforts

Officials have stated that the vessel is likely to remain stuck for the next month due to unsuitable tide conditions. “The tides in the estuary are now dropping off and we’ll now have to wait for a big spring tide to make another attempt,” Roberts explained.

Crew to Stay Onboard Until Refloating

The crew will stay onboard until the next refloating attempt, which is not expected until early April.

Previous Refloating Attempts

The ship first ran aground on Sunday at 21:08 GMT, to which there was an immediate response. Following the initial failed attempt, subsequent efforts were undertaken on Monday morning using three tugs, with a third effort later in the evening.

Background and Specifications

As per maritime tracking records, the ship was constructed in 2004 and is presently registered under a European flag.
