 Carnival Corporation & plc partners with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft for the construction of a cutting-edge LNG-fueled Excel-class cruise ship, marking the company’s first newbuild order in five years, reports Offshore Energy.

Key Features of the New Ship

The upcoming vessel, named Carnival Jubilee, will be the tenth Excel-class ship in the Carnival Corporation fleet, boasting a weight of 180,000 tons and accommodating over 6,400 guests.

Environmental Commitment

Scheduled for a spring 2027 debut, Carnival Jubilee represents Carnival Corporation’s dedication to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as it will utilize an LNG technology platform for propulsion, aligning with the company’s goal of an 18% reduction in emission intensity by 2024 compared to 2019 levels.

Strategic Financial Approach

CEO Josh Weinstein emphasizes a responsible capital approach, leveraging substantial free cash flow to improve the company’s balance sheet and reduce leverage levels. This measured capacity growth strategy includes the addition of one to two ships annually from 2027 onwards, ensuring efficient allocation to meet rising demand while maximizing shareholder value.
