Cavotec has signed a €1.55 million contract with Equans to deliver a shore power system for cruise vessels at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Belgium. The project aims to significantly reduce emissions and aligns with international environmental regulations.
EU-Funded Green Infrastructure
The initiative, co-funded by the European Union, will allow cruise ships docking at the terminal to connect to shore-side electricity. This will enable ships to shut down their onboard diesel generators, minimizing noise and air pollution while berthed.
Delivery of the shore power system is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, and the agreement also includes a five-year maintenance contract for continued equipment support.
Leadership in Cruise Shore Power
David Pagels, CEO of Cavotec, commented on the milestone:
“This order reinforces our strong position in the shore power market for cruise applications and highlights the trust customers place in our technology as ports accelerate their transition to clean operations,”
The project further cements Cavotec’s role as a key supplier of green port technologies, particularly in the cruise sector, where decarbonization efforts are intensifying globally.
As ports across Europe modernize their infrastructure to meet climate goals, Cavotec’s latest project in Antwerp-Bruges demonstrates how shore power solutions are becoming central to sustainable maritime operations.
