China Classification Society (CCS) has issued China’s first marine hydrogen fuel cell and power generation system testing accreditation certificate to CATARC Automotive Test Center (Tianjin) Co., Ltd, reports Manifold Times.

Fang Tao, Deputy General Manager of CCS Tianjin Branch, and Gao Jidong, General Manager of CATARC Automotive Test Center (Tianjin), attended the certification ceremony.

CATARC accreditation

The accredited testing institution can now perform performance tests of large-capacity hydrogen fuel power generation devices, and can complete environmental tests and electromagnetic compatibility tests under hydrogen-related on-load operation. This will help determine the performance of hydrogen fuel power generation devices that are closer to the actual operating conditions of ships.

Environmental adaptability and reliability verification provide a reliable and impartial verification platform for the safe application of hydrogen fuel power generation devices on ships, according to CCS.

Hydrogen fuel cell technology

Hydrogen fuel cell technology is one of the important new energy and clean energy technologies, because of its advantages of zero carbon emission and zero pollution, it has great application potential.

CCS organised a dedicated team to study the application of hydrogen fuel cells in the marine field, and successively released a series of supporting technical guidance documents such as the Guidelines for ships using fuel cell power installations and the inspection guidelines for hydrogen fuel cells, reforming units, and hydrogen cylinders.

Marine hydrogen fuel power generation

The hydrogen fuel cell testing of the CATARC Automotive Test Center (Tianjin) began in 2012. The institute is committed to standard formulation and testing technology research in the field of hydrogen energy and fuel cells.

CCS Tianjin Branch and CATARC Automotive Test Center (Tianjin) carried out in-depth exchanges and cooperation, analysed relevant technical standards, improved relevant testing capabilities, and finally successfully completed the accreditation of the first test agency for marine hydrogen fuel power generation devices in China, helping green technology development.
