- Four-Party Agreement Signed in Singapore for B100 Biodiesel Ship Testing.
- CCS and Partners Begin 1,000-Hour Test of B100 Biofuel for Marine Engines.
- Singapore Hosts First Long-Term B100 Biofuel Test for Maritime Industry.
On 10 October 2024, the China Classification Society Singapore Branch signed a four-party research cooperation agreement with Weichai Singapore Pte. Ltd. (Weichai Singapore), the Marine Energy and Sustainability Research Department of Nanyang Technological University, and Pinnacle Marine in Singapore, reports CCS.
Pioneering B100 Biofuel in Marine Applications
The core of the program is a 1,000-hour continuous running test of B100 biodiesel in ships operating within Singapore port waters. The study will assess the performance and emissions of B100 biodiesel in real sea conditions to yield useful information about its long-term effect on the functioning of an engine and sustainability.
High-Level Support for the Partnership
Dignitaries at the signing of the deal included Zhou Naixiang, deputy secretary of Shandong Provincial Party Committee and governor, Song Junji, deputy governor, Cao Zhongming, Chinese ambassador to Singapore, Xu Wen, secretary general of Shandong Provincial Government, and Man Shengang, secretary and director of Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. Representing the project partners were Chen Zili, General Manager of the CCS Singapore Branch; Xue Hua, General Manager of Weichai Singapore; MESD Co-director Yuan Jinhui; and PINNACLE CEO Lin Feng.
Advancing Toward Net-Zero Emissions
The possibility of B100 biodiesel in the transition of shipping towards net-zero emissions is an exciting one. It will be the first extensive ship test in Singapore and provide critical data on the performance of biodiesel that will help in establishing standards for onboard storage, handling, and refuelling technology. CCS looks forward to this partnership in building technical know-how in biodiesel solutions to help the maritime sector reach net-zero ambitions through advanced services and insights into sustainable fuel use.
