South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries has successfully delivered a new 180,000-cbm LNG carrier, named Celsius Greenwich, to Denmark’s Celsius Tankers, a subsidiary of Celsius Shipping. This marks the fifth vessel of ten that Celsius has ordered from Samsung Heavy, reports LNGPrime.

Delivery of Celsius Greenwich

The latest addition to the Celsius Tankers fleet, the Celsius Greenwich, is the ninth vessel delivered since the project started in 2019. It features advanced technology, including a MAN ME-GA engine and GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system.

The LNG carrier is part of a long-term charter agreement with UK-based energy giant BP.

Celsius Tech, a joint venture between Celsius Shipping and Hong Kong-based Fleet Management, will manage the Celsius Greenwich along with other Celsius vessels, including the previously delivered Celsius Gandhinagar.

Celsius Tankers plans to receive the remaining five vessels from Samsung Heavy between 2024 and 2026. The first vessel in this series, Celsius Geneva, was named in July 2023.

Long-term Charter Deals

In addition to the charter agreement with BP, Celsius Tankers has signed long-term deals with Clearlake Shipping, a subsidiary of energy trader Gunvor, for four LNG carriers, including Celsius Glarus, Celsius Geneva, Celsius Giza, and Celsius Gandhinagar.

Celsius Tankers is also expanding its fleet with newbuilds from China Merchants Heavy Industry in Jiangsu. These vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and 2027, with options for additional ships.

Upon completion, Celsius will have a total of 20 LNG carriers, including the four 180,000-cbm vessels delivered in 2020 and 2021.
