Delivery Of The Celsius Glarus
Celsius Tankers, a unit of Denmark’s Celsius Shipping, has recently received a new 180,000-cbm LNG carrier from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries. The vessel, named Celsius Glarus, was officially announced by Celsius Tech, a joint venture between Celsius Shipping and Hong Kong-based Fleet Management. This delivery is part of a larger order placed by Celsius at Samsung Heavy, marking the third of ten vessels.
Features And Management Of The New Carrier
The Celsius Glarus, similar to its sister ship Celsius Giza named last year, is equipped with advanced technologies including a MAN ME-GA engine and GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system. Management of this new LNG carrier will be undertaken by the joint venture, which also oversees other Celsius vessels.
Progress Of Celsius’s Fleet Expansion
The delivery of Celsius Glarus follows the naming of the first newbuild in the series, Celsius Geneva, in July 2023. Celsius Tankers anticipates the arrival of the remaining seven vessels in their order during 2024-2026. This expansion is a significant step in growing the company’s fleet and presence in the LNG carrier market.
Charter Agreements With Clearlake Shipping
Clearlake Shipping, a subsidiary of energy trader Gunvor, has chartered the Celsius Glarus, following previous charters of Celsius Geneva and Celsius Giza. In October 2021, Celsius Tankers signed long-term charter deals with Clearlake Shipping for four LNG carriers. Additionally, four more newbuild LNG carriers chartered to Clearlake Shipping are set to be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry in Jiangsu, with expected delivery in 2026 and 2027.
Further Fleet Expansion Plans
Celsius Tankers is not stopping there; the company placed an order in October for two more LNG carriers at the Chinese shipyard, with an option for four additional vessels. Upon completion of all these deliveries, Celsius Tankers will have an impressive fleet of 20 LNG carriers, significantly bolstering its operational capacity in the global LNG market.
