On February 8, a chemical tanker belonging to China reportedly exploded on the Yangtze River and triggered a major fire.
What happened?
The chemical tanker ‘Wan Zhong Si Hao’ exploded while transiting near Changzhou Port on Yangtze River.
The explosion occurred onboard the vessel and triggered a massive fire onboard which severely injured a crew member present onboard the vessel.
Fire contained
The local administration dispatched fire engines to the scene and were successful in containing the fire.
The severely injured crew member was rushed to the hospital where he was stabilised and injuries are being treated.
Investigation launched
A preliminary investigation suggests that the crews didn’t wear electrostatic prevention clothing in accordance with the safety protocols when unloading the hazardous cargo from the ship.
