China Delivers First Homegrown Large LNG Carrier in Dalian

The SEA SPIRIT, a large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier designed and built entirely in China, was officially delivered in Dalian, Liaoning Province. The vessel has a capacity of 175,000 cubic meters and is engineered to transport LNG at temperatures as low as minus 163°C under normal atmospheric pressure, strengthening its role in the global LNG supply chain.

Construction and Specifications

Built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), for China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd., the SEA SPIRIT showcases China’s growing capabilities in large-scale shipbuilding. It measures 295 meters in length, 46.4 meters in width, 26.2 meters in depth, and has a designed draft of 11.5 meters. Its cargo tank capacity allows docking at the majority of major LNG terminals worldwide, ensuring broad adaptability.

Technology and Efficiency

The vessel is equipped with the GTT Mark III membrane containment system, recognized for high safety, stability, and minimal LNG boil-off during voyages. Additionally, the SEA SPIRIT complies with the International Maritime Organization’s strictest emission standards in both fuel and gas modes, underscoring its energy efficiency and environmental performance.
