In a significant step toward enhancing global trade connectivity, China has launched its first direct cargo shipping route from the Yangtze River basin to Africa. A freight vessel carrying over 2,700 domestically made vehicles and construction machinery departed Suzhou Port in Jiangsu Province on Sunday, heading toward Durban, South Africa. This new route promises to streamline trade between the two regions and boost economic opportunities.

A Milestone in China-Africa Trade Connectivity

The newly launched route is the first of its kind linking the Yangtze River basin directly to Africa. By offering combined roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) and container shipping services, it simplifies logistics and provides greater flexibility for transporting various types of cargo, including vehicles and machinery.

Boosting Market Access for Local Businesses

This direct route significantly reduces transportation time and complexity for exporters in China’s inland regions. It enables local businesses to reach African markets more efficiently, supporting the growth of trade partnerships and creating new opportunities for cooperation in sectors such as automotive, construction, and industrial equipment.

Monthly Service for Key Exports

Operating once a month, the service is set to become a dependable logistics link between China and Africa. It will mainly transport passenger vehicles, construction machinery, and related components, reflecting the strong demand for these products in African markets.
