China launched the world’s largest ore carrier on Tuesday in Qingdao City of east China’s Shandong Province.

The carrier, with the length of 362 meters and width of 65 meters, has a super capacity of 400,000 tons. At a speed of 14.5 knots or 26.9 kilometers per hour, its endurance range is 25,500 nautical miles or about 47,000 kilometers. With seven cargoes and one liquefied natural gas tank, the carrier claims a maximum loading and unloading speed twice quicker as compared with other ships.

All the ship’s technical indicators in terms of structure, propelling and monitoring systems are upgraded to the advanced level of the world, according to its builder.

“Our country has made a greater progress in the building of large ships, including design, supporting facility, testing and standards,” said Chen Jing, president of the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group under the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC).

A total of 30 ore carriers will be built by four Chinese shipyards. And the carriers will mainly ship iron ore from Brazil to China.
