According to a recent Seatrade Maritime News, China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) has signed newbuilding contract with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) for $331.8m.

What is in the contract?

CMES has signed newbuilding contract for the construction of four 307,000 dwt very large crude carriers (VLCCs) with DSIC for $331.8m.

  • The four new-generation VLCCs will reduce 5% fuel consumption compared to VLCCs the company built during 2018-2019.
  • The delivery of the vessels is scheduled during August 2021 and July 2022.

This new contract is in line with the company’s development strategy and meets the demand of fleet optimization, CMES said.

VLCC sale

China Merchants Energy Shipping recently sold two VLCCs to phase out the vessels that  were not energy-efficient and environmental-friendly, to further optimize its fleet structure.
