China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) has sold its 17-year-old very large crude carrier to GCC Fuel Supply, says an article published in Splash.

Non-energy-saving

China Merchants Group’s Shanghai-listed energy transport unit has sold the 2005-built New Spirit for roughly $32.5 million, with deposits of nearly $3.4 million already received. The deadline for delivery is July 20, 2022.

CMES has been selling a class of ships categorised as non-energy-saving since 2021.

The latest sale followed the $36.8 million sale in May of the 2009-built New Talisman to GCC Fuel Supply.

Environmentally friendly

CMES has a fleet of 51 VLCCs, 30 of which are energy-efficient and environmentally beneficial, according to the company.

The company received one VLCC newbuild over the weekend and expects to get two VLCCs and one aframax tanker in the second part of the year.
