COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers has set a new benchmark in sustainable maritime innovation with the addition of the GREEN RIZHAO to its fleet, reports Xinde Marine News.
During a naming ceremony in Dalian, the vessel was welcomed as the 14th ship in the company’s 77,000 DWT multipurpose series, renowned for its capacity to transport specialized cargo, including the world’s largest professional pulp carriers.
The GREEN RIZHAO is China’s first vessel to undergo and successfully pass a carbon-neutral evaluation, earning a Carbon Neutrality Certificate issued by the China Classification Society (CCS). Uniquely built with zero carbon emissions throughout its construction process, the vessel stands as a testament to the shipping industry’s shift towards sustainability.
Innovative Design and Capabilities
The GREEN RIZHAO boasts cutting-edge features designed to enhance safety and efficiency:
- Dimensions: LOA 225 meters, Beam 32.26 meters, Draft 21 meters.
- Specialized cargo holds with a box-shaped design and dehumidifiers to ensure the safety of pulp cargo.
- Capability to transport diverse cargo, including high-speed trains, wind power equipment, EVs, heavy machinery, and oversized steel structures.
- A “one-on-one” temperature monitoring and alert system to ensure safe transport of EVs.

The vessel’s maiden voyage exemplifies its role in sustainable global trade. Carrying wind power equipment, engineering machinery, and containers, it will journey from Chinese ports to Brazil along the South America East route, emphasizing the importance of renewable energy and green logistics.
