  • Hudong-Zhonghua secured contracts, including 24 of QatarEnergy’s largest LNG carriers.

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has made remarkable strides in LNG carrier production, delivering the “GreenEnergy Pearl,” an advanced 174,000 cubic meter LNG vessel, eight months ahead of schedule. This marks the eighth such delivery in 2024, solidifying its position as a leader in the global shipbuilding industry, reports iMarine News.

Early Milestone and Strategic Importance

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding delivered “GreenEnergy Pearl” eight months early, marking a significant achievement in 2024 for Chinese shipbuilders.

This delivery highlights China’s growing influence in the LNG transportation industry and its ability to construct and deliver large LNG carriers efficiently.

CNOOC’s Growing LNG Fleet

The “GreenEnergy Pearl,” sister to the “GreenEnergy Ocean,” is part of CNOOC’s initiative to enhance its LNG transportation capacity.

With both vessels delivered within a year, CNOOC is making strides in developing a sustainable and competitive LNG fleet, crucial for China’s energy security and global bargaining power.

Green Innovations

The “GreenEnergy Pearl” builds on the success of its predecessor, which won the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s “Green Ship Award.”

The new vessel supports CNOOC’s vision of a safe, green, and cost-effective LNG transportation network.

High-Quality Shipbuilding Achievements

Hudong-Zhonghua’s success extends to securing major contracts, including 24 ultra-large LNG carriers for QatarEnergy, setting a global record for single-vessel orders.

Additionally, the company received 26 container ship orders in 2024, amounting to over RMB 15 billion, advancing RMB internationalization in maritime trade.

Future Prospects

With a total order value of RMB 150 billion, Hudong-Zhonghua plans to deliver over 10 large LNG carriers in 2025.

This aims to standardize and streamline production processes to lead the high-quality development of China’s shipbuilding industry.
