China’s shipbuilding output down 12.1 percent in January-November

In the January-November period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 31.83 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 12.1 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI).  In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 19.94 million dwt, decreasing by 14 percent year on year.  As of the end of November, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 103.01 million dwt, down 20.4 percent year on year and decreasing by 16.3 percent compared to the end of 2015.

In the January-November period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 29.32 million dead weight tons (dwt), down eight percent year on year and accounting for 92.1 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period.  Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 15.93 million dwt, decreasing by 22.5 percent year on year and constituting 79.9 percent of total new ship orders.  As of the end of November, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 95.59 million dwt, down 22.6 percent year on year and constituting 92.8 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
