  • Conoship International Projects (CIP) has developed an innovative, future-proof and environmentally friendly 3600dwt general cargo vessel, suited for sea-river operations.
  • The first series of 6 of these diesel-electric propulsion cargo vessels will be constructed at Fosen Yard Emden, Germany.
  • Since 2019 we want to re-establish shipbuilding in Germany, at least in certain segments with Fosen Yard Emden, as a member of the Fosen Group.

Conoship International Projects (CIP) has designed a 3600dwt general cargo vessel that is innovative, future-proof, and environmentally friendly, making it ideal for sea-river operations as reported by ShipInsight.

Cargo vessels

The company claims the vessel can be considered the new standard for low-air draught sea-river coasters.

The first series of 6 of these diesel-electric propulsion cargo vessels will be constructed at Fosen Yard Emden, Germany.

With its well thought out diesel-electric propulsion system, enlarged propeller in combination with a ConoDuctTail and optimised hull lines, its fuel consumption will be best in class, especially in wind and waves.

The EEDI of the vessel as calculated as a diesel-driven vessel is already below the phase 3 requirements.

Furthermore, a switch of fuel type to future fuels such as liquid hydrogen or ammonia is facilitated by smart arrangement design, where the requirements of the future fuels have been taken into account from the beginning of the conceptual design process.

Main particulars of the vessel:

  • Length overall 88m
  • Breadth moulded 13.2m
  • Draught design 3m
  • Draught maximum 5.0m
  • Deadweight at max draught 3,640 tonnes
  • Hold volume 180,105 cu ft.
  • Service Speed 10.00kt
  • Attained EEDI abt. 35% below phase 3 requirements.

Vessel construction

Due to production-friendly construction principles, optimised logistics and increased series effects, the construction of these vessels can be carried out competitively at a variety of shipyards in North-Western Europe.

“We are very proud that this ultra-fuel-efficient cargo vessel is developed according to our philosophy to build in series in the North of Europe”, said Maarten Sickler, Director of Conoship International Projects.

The project was initiated by CIP based on extensive market research and proactively marketed looking for clients, and sourcing shipyards.

The order is intended to become a flagship project and attract other similar projects to the region.

“Since 2019 we want to re-establish shipbuilding in Germany, at least in certain segments with Fosen Yard Emden, as a member of the Fosen Group.

Its 100 employees enable it to build high quality at competitive prices.”

The construction of this first series of six cargo vessels is planned for spring 2022, while the entire series is expected to be delivered in 2023.
