- RWE Offshore Wind has awarded two long-term agreements to Clarkson Port Services to support operations at the 1.6 GW Nordseecluster offshore wind project.
- Clarkson will build a new 1,700 m² warehouse facility in the port of Eemshaven to serve as a hub for logistics and maintenance support.
- A 10-year exclusive service agreement was signed, making Clarkson Port Services a key logistics partner for the entire operational life of the project.
In a significant development for European offshore wind logistics, RWE Offshore Wind has entered into a long-term partnership with Clarkson Port Services to support the operations and maintenance of the Nordseecluster, one of the largest offshore wind projects currently under development off the coast of Germany. This move underscores the vital role of port infrastructure and logistics in enabling the successful deployment of large-scale renewable energy projects.
New Warehouse Facility in Eemshaven
As part of the agreement, the Dutch division of Clarkson Port Services will construct a new warehouse and office facility covering approximately 1,700 square metres in the Beatrixhaven section of the port of Eemshaven. The facility, set to break ground this summer and complete by spring 2026, will be leased long-term by RWE to serve as a logistics base for Nordseecluster’s operations and maintenance activities. This investment not only strengthens local port capabilities but also reflects RWE’s commitment to ensuring a well-supported operational phase for its renewable energy assets.
Exclusive 10-Year Service Deal
In addition to the warehouse lease, Clarkson Port Services has secured a 10-year exclusive service contract to deliver a full suite of port and logistics services throughout the lifecycle of the Nordseecluster project. These services will support day-to-day operations once power generation begins, enhancing supply chain efficiency and asset reliability.
Wim Schouwenaar, Managing Director of Clarkson Port Services (Netherlands), stated:
“This is a major milestone for our company. We are proud to be recognised as a trusted local partner of RWE and look forward to supporting the Nordseecluster throughout its operational period.”
Supporting a Major Renewable Energy Asset
Nordseecluster, a joint project between RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%), is being constructed 50 km north of Juist Island in the German North Sea. With a planned capacity of up to 1.6 GW, the wind farm cluster is expected to power approximately 1.6 million German homes with clean electricity.
The project will be rolled out in two phases:
- Nordseecluster A is on track to connect all turbines to the grid by early 2027.
- Nordseecluster B is expected to commence commercial operations by early 2029.
RWE retains responsibility for the full construction and operational phases of the project, reinforcing its leading role in Germany’s offshore wind expansion.
Derk Niklas Janssen, RWE’s operations manager for the project, noted:
“Clarkson Port Services will provide us with a state-of-the-art warehouse and outstanding logistics support – both essential for the efficient operation of Nordseecluster.”
A Boost for the Local Economy and Renewable Sector
This collaboration not only advances RWE’s renewable energy ambitions but also brings economic benefits to the port of Eemshaven, generating local employment and positioning it as a key hub for offshore wind logistics. It also showcases how strategic partnerships between energy developers and logistics providers are pivotal in scaling up offshore wind infrastructure efficiently and sustainably.
As the Nordseecluster progresses towards energization, the long-term cooperation between RWE and Clarkson Port Services sets a benchmark for integrated, port-based logistics support in the offshore wind sector.
