  • CNOOC delivered two new LNG carriers, Green Energy Star and Green Energy Moon, in Shanghai.
  • The vessels are part of the company’s “Green Energy” fleet and follow earlier deliveries in 2024.
  • Each ship has a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters of LNG, enough to supply seven million households for a month.
  • Built with advanced technology, the carriers meet carbon emission standards 15 years ahead of IMO requirements and can serve 120 LNG terminals worldwide.

On September 26, CNOOC marked a milestone with the delivery of two large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, Green Energy Star and Green Energy Moon, at Changxing Island in Shanghai. These new additions strengthen the company’s “Green Energy” fleet and highlight its growing role in the global LNG transport sector, according to PortNews.

The delivery of Green Energy Star and Green Energy Moon follows earlier milestones, with Green Energy Ying entering service in May 2024 and Green Energy Pearl in December 2024. The first two vessels in the series were honored with the “Green Ship Award” from Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority in 2024 and 2025, underscoring their environmentally advanced design.

Each of the newly delivered carriers measures 299 meters in length, 46.4 meters in width, and 26.25 meters in depth, with a storage capacity of 174,000 cubic meters of LNG—sufficient to meet the monthly needs of seven million households. Built on the “Changheng series” LNG ship design developed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard, the vessels are fitted with advanced propulsion systems, cargo containment solutions, and reliquefaction technology. CNOOC emphasized that the ships’ carbon emissions performance is 15 years ahead of International Maritime Organization standards, while their operational range allows access to 120 LNG terminals worldwide.
