A fire broke out in the engine room of a vessel, causing it to lose power and drift. According to Marine Traffic, the crew successfully extinguished the fire, but four crew members suffered burns, with one sustaining serious injuries.

Prompt Dispatch

The Taiwan Coast Guard received a distress signal from a vessel on January 4th at 5:00 PM local time. The vessel was located approximately 23 nautical miles off Cape Eluanbi, Taiwan’s southernmost point.

Five Coast Guard vessels were immediately dispatched to the scene. However, due to rough sea conditions with 3-4 meter waves, a ship-to-ship transfer of the injured crew members was deemed unsafe.

A helicopter from the Ministry of National Defence was deployed at around 7:00 PM. It successfully airlifted the four injured crew members to Kaohsiung Airport, where they were then transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
