- Columbia Shipmanagement (CSM) will be the first user of a new smart shipping application, which uses technology already deployed in the aviation sector.
- CSM will use SmartSea’s maritime management platform, which uses programs developed by SITA in the aviation sector, to accelerate its digitalisation campaign and support SITA’s entry into the maritime market.
SITA is making a move into the maritime sector, following an initial agreement with Columbia Shipmanagement (CSM) as it launches its SmartSea integrated maritime management platform, reports Riviera Maritime Media.
Digitalisation platform for smarter shipping
SmartSea, which will act as an independent company based in Cyprus, will provide access to a range of IT services for onshore and offshore requirements, built on data-driven methodologies already applied in the aviation industry. Modules in its iMMS system will cover areas including crew management, planned maintenance, insurance and inspections.
Mark O’Neil, CEO of Columbia Group, expressed his excitement about collaborating with SmartSea, highlighting that the company’s extensive experience and innovative aviation technology would significantly benefit the maritime industry.
He emphasized that this partnership would enable maritime stakeholders to access a comprehensive onshore and vessel-based IT systems solution, greatly enhancing efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
“Utilising this technology will revolutionise the industry and drive forward digitisation and bring us in line with other technologically advanced industries,” O’Neil noted
Julian Panter, CEO of SmartSea, remarked that SITA’s launch of SmartSea and their first agreement with CSM represented a strategic advancement for both SITA’s broader growth strategy and the digitalization of the maritime industry.
