Early Thursday, the Captain of a containership is reported to have collapsed onboard in the waters off of Staten Island. The ship was inbound in the vicinity of St. George when the Captain of the vessel collapsed on the bridge, according to Charles Rowe, a spokesman for Coast Guard Sector, New York, based in Rosebank.
On receiving a distress call the EMS traveled with Marine 9 based on Front Street in Stapleton to the ship. A person with a minor injury was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.
The coast guard reports say that the ship is registered in Panama.
