Container Ship Catches Fire, Loses Engine Power

On August 21, a container ship reportedly caught fire after an explosion and lost its engine power.

What happened?

In the late hours of August 21, the Container ship ‘Maersk Pembroke’ caught fire after suffering from an explosion in Celtic sea west of Lizard Point. The vessel was en route from Antwerp Belgium to Montreal Canada when the incident occurred.

Fire brought under control:

The fire was isolated and brought under control by the crew members. The space where the fire originated has been isolated and is being cooled from the outside. The fire reportedly caused damage to the machinery and communication equipment onboard the vessel thus disabling it.

Lost engine power:

The vessel lost its engine power and was running on the emergency generator before becoming adrift at Sea for a couple of hours. It was successfully salvaged by the supply tug ‘Edda Frende’.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident and the officials have initiated investigation to determine the reason for the explosion.
