Due to a fuel quality issue, a container ship headed for South Korea from Canada’s west coast was forced to return to port last month as reported by Ship & Bunker.

Ship’s return

The SM Busan, a 6,655 TEU container ship that left Portland for South Korea before Christmas, was hauled back to the Victoria Cruise Terminal last week for emergency repairs, according to a LinkedIn post by the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA).

The boxship will remain in port for “a few weeks,” according to the organisation.

The ship’s return was due to a fuel issue, according to Maritime Bulletin, which cited statements from the Canadian coastguard.

According to CTV News, the ship will need to be destroyed before it can be repaired, citing GVHA CEO Ian Robertson’s words.
