On Jan 27, a container ship “Freya”, coming from Helsingborg suffered engine trouble while approaching the locks of the Kiel Canal in Kiel-Holtenau.

The vessel was en route from Helsingborg to Hamburg, but the blackout pushed the crew to stop the approach and the vessel returned back to the Kiel Fjord for troubleshooting and repairs.

The crew found out it was a fault between the automatic and manual engine control that caused the issue.  The problem was fixed by the ship’s engineers and the vessel attempted again to cross the canal.  It finally continued the voyage at 11.30 p.m. and berthed at the Athabaska Quay in Hamburg on Jan 28 at 11 a.m.
