Containership Grounded Off Saigon Newport

2299

On June 6, a container ship ran aground at a channel after veering off the freeway.

What happened?

The container ship ‘Zim New York’ ran aground in the Vung Tau-Thi Vai Channel after veering off the fairway between the buoys 11 and 12.

The vessel was enroute to the Cai Mep International Container Terminal, Saigon Newport when it got stuck at the entrance of the New Cai Mep-Thi Vai Port (TCTT) in the Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Vessel refloated

Since the vessel ran aground at low water, it was refloated in a short span of time with the rising tide.

The vessel is currently anchored at the Vung Tau.

Traffic unaffected

As the vessel was refloated in a short span of time, the traffic on the freeway was not affected.

An investigation has been launched into the incident to determine the reason for the vessel veering off the freeway.
