Cosco Shipping and the city of Tianjin have just announced an exciting expansion of their partnership, focusing on boosting collaboration in several key areas like port construction, shipping logistics, equipment manufacturing, ship repair, and technological innovation, reports Seatrade Maritime.
Unlocking Tianjin’s Geographical and Port Advantages
Wan Min, the chairman of Cosco Shipping, highlighted Tianjin’s strategic location and robust port infrastructure, describing it as the perfect partner for future growth. He mentioned that Cosco Shipping is committed to enhancing practical cooperation to help transform Tianjin into a major international shipping hub in northern China. This partnership is set to foster integrated development across ports, industries, and urban areas, aligning with national strategies.
North China Headquarters to Drive Regional Integration
The establishment of Cosco Shipping’s North China Regional Headquarters in Tianjin is viewed as a significant step towards supporting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. This initiative aims to lower logistics costs, enhance regional connectivity, and stimulate economic growth. Zhu Bixin, the general manager of Cosco Shipping, pointed out that the new headquarters will manage operations across Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, as well as central-western Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, and Henan.
Leveraging Group Strengths Across Ports and Logistics
Zhu further explained that Cosco Shipping plans to utilise its regional headquarters as a strategic link, maximising the company’s extensive capabilities in shipping, ports, and logistics. The group also intends to strengthen its industry leadership by fostering local innovation and development in marine engineering and shipbuilding.
Large Vessel Repair and Green Shipbuilding Project Launched
A significant milestone has been reached with the launch of a large vessel repair and green shipbuilding project. This partnership has led to an agreement to establish a state-of-the-art offshore engineering repair and manufacturing base in Tianjin. Nestled in the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone, the project will feature three docks and seven berths, making it possible to repair, modify, and assemble large vessels and offshore equipment.
Aiming for a World-Class Smart and Green Port
This new facility is not just about repairs; it will also play a crucial role in offshore engineering assembly and lay the groundwork for green shipbuilding. This aligns perfectly with Tianjin’s ambition to become a leading smart and eco-friendly port. With this development, we can expect a significant enhancement in the service capacity of the northern international shipping centre, further solidifying Tianjin’s status in the global maritime logistics arena.
