Recently, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers and the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute signed a landmark cooperation memorandum at the Tanzania Port Authority. The agreement sets the stage for strengthening maritime training, internships, and career development opportunities for Tanzanian seafarers, while reinforcing China–Tanzania maritime collaboration.
Strengthening Maritime Education and Career Development
The MoU outlines COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers’ commitment to providing internships, practical onboard training, and career development support to students of the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute. In addition, the company will organize training sessions for active seafarers, equipping them with both technical expertise and global perspectives. This initiative is designed to help Tanzania cultivate maritime professionals who can thrive in the international shipping industry.
Deepening China–Tanzania Strategic Maritime Cooperation
The collaboration reflects the implementation of agreements reached during the Tanzanian Minister of Transport’s visit to China in 2024. It also highlights COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers’ dedication to advancing ESG principles by fostering talent development and promoting social responsibility. Both parties aim to build on this partnership by integrating resources, expanding cooperative areas, and supporting sustainable shipping development in Tanzania and the wider East African region.
By combining COSCO SHIPPING’s global expertise with the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute’s local talent pool, this partnership represents a major step toward strengthening Tanzania’s maritime workforce. Beyond skills training, the MoU adds momentum to the China–Tanzania Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and underscores the importance of education and human capital in driving sustainable growth in the maritime sector.
