The Victorian premier has given hope the state’s lockdown could end as forecast as “the trend is good,” reports 7News.
Trend is on
On Friday, the state recorded 14 new cases, with 10 of those in isolation for the entirety of their infectious period. This brings the total of the current outbreak to 147.
Daniel Andrews said while it was still really hard to predict what will happen by midnight on Tuesday, “the trend is with us”.
“It was not so long ago we had less than 10 per cent of our positive cases in isolation, tucked away while they were at their infectious peak,” Andrews said.
“We now have 75 per cent of our new cases isolated, with no risk to public health or anybody else. That is a triumph.”
COVID19 lockdown
Andrews said the results are encouraging. “Whether the next few days continue that way, we will only know with the passage of time,” he said.
He added, “What I am certain of though, if everyone keeps playing their part and takes this lockdown seriously and is really clear in their behaviour, we’ll get the right outcome. We’ll be open and we’ll be something approaching normal and we will have beaten this second Delta outbreak.”
Victoria has been in lockdown for eight days with only five essential reasons to leave home and a 5km travel radius. It was extended once due to Sydney’s growing COVID outbreak, but is set to expire at 11.59pm on Tuesday.
Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said the health department would be looking at the number of infected people in the community and would “love to see” it get to zero.
“They are a small percentage of our total case every day,” he said. “We are on track. We need to see what today, tomorrow and the weekend brings.”
